
Сhoirmaster Mariamna Smit

Mariamna Smit-van Minnen (born 1947 in Amsterdam) studied Musicology at the Amsterdam City University with a minor in Russian. During twenty years, she worked as a music teacher.
Her first encounter with the Orthodox Church was in 1966 when she joined the choir of the Amsterdam parish of the Russian Church in Exile (Muiderstraat), where she also met her husband Matthew (Teeuwis).
Mariamna Smit has been singing in the choir of our Patriarchal parish of St Nicholas since its establishment in 1974.
In 1981 she was received into the Orthodox Church by Archpriest Alexis Voogd.
Since 1999 she has been serving as second choirmaster of the parish choir.
